Of Darkness and Light

A subject I often ponder is that of dark versus light. So many words are written about light conquering dark, about light being good and darkness being evil, about fearing and repressing our dark side to let our light shine through.

To me, they each make the other more beautiful. You could not see the light of the stars without the darkness of the night sky. Darkness may be a good cover for evil, but it is not the personification of it. Darkness is quiet, it is soft and velvety, it can be warm and nurturing like the Mother’s womb. Light allows you to see in the darkness, to find treasures that may otherwise stay hidden. It can bring warmth and  it can burn. The beauty of light, be it flame or star or other source, is revealed and enhanced by the darkness.

This translates to ourselves as well. This is my opinion, and I invite and welcome your thoughts. I see myself as a melding of light and dark, the two need each other to keep me whole……the darkness is the womb in which the rainbow that is my personality, my spirit, my mind, my thoughts and dreams and desires sprout from. The darkness births the light, and the light shoots off in many directions, wearing many colors, painting stunning paths, yet the roots remain firmly imbedded in their birthplace.

I love the light. I love the dark. What do you think and feel?
